The Problem With 4D

The problem with a story in a game is the fact that these days multiple ways to get to an end need to be possible, its your decision and you should be able to respond on your own way to certain problems. To get a simple way into the system we are building its good to build a simple presentation of what we would like to accomplish in a short amount of time using limited tools. In this case its a visual picture game where the player can combine pictures with one another in order to create a hot cup of coffee.

Expression through Game

For years I have been playing story based games, fought my way trough endless lines of story and slayed more enemy’s then I care to remember. When I finished a game I was always left with an emptiness, a hole that could not be filled after a game came to an end. Even after trying games with endless story like World of Warcraft I was left with a boredom and empty feeling of the world around me. It seemed nothing could feed this hole inside me… Read the rest of this entry »

Gaming in 2020

Some months ago I made a little document on how gaming would look like in 2020, this was for a contest to win a full access ticket for the GDC. I didn’t win anything nor got mentioned but that’s fine. The funny thing is that I’ve been aiming a lot on brain technology and just recently I got in contact with a person who is working with a team on how the brain works so who knows I will be realizing my own future vision one day. The power of the word

Some time ago someone really smart told me the concept of writing is overrated, and guess what she was right. After some thinking I was intrigued with the idea of not having to write anymore, this is mainly because writing is not my strongest point. People have two parts of brain the right for all the creative things and the left part for all the boring facts like writing. I myself use the right part most of the day, I’m left handed, can’t remember names so well, and my spelling is not even worth a C-. And to show this fact I won’t use my IPaul plugin to fix all the spelling in this blogpost. Read the rest of this entry »

Procedural Game Development

Today’s big triple A games cost from 10 to over a 100 million to create and take years to finish.

I went to a presentation about a week ago by Ernest Adams and he gave me some new ideas on the subject of future development.
Ernest is a veteran in the industry and currently working as a consultant.
You might know him from one of the games he worked on, you can find a list of them here. Read the rest of this entry »

Future of Gaming Prt.4

In this part I’m going to talk about emotions in games.
Now some know I would be the last person on earth to talk about emotions but I’m still gonna have a go at it.
Ill be talking about emotions in general and how they can function in games

Emotions are something that we experience all the time basically, you can for example be disgusted by a object or a person, or you can feel disgusted if you think about something. Read the rest of this entry »

Future of Gaming Prt.3

Well now that we talked about the world and the player itself we are going to move on to something that is already somewhat in development, player to player interaction.
I don’t know if anyone had one of those moments where a player can block a doorway making it impossible to get out, and team killing is not active so you’re trapped in a room? Well I have and its pretty irritating if it happens a lot.
Yes people don’t work well together very often and this is only one of the many examples I could give you regarding this subject. Read the rest of this entry »

Future of Gaming Prt.2

In my last blog post I talked about the idea of making a game world completely interactive giving the player new ways to play, even if there not aware of it at first.

To talk about a new aspect of the player interacting with himself and giving the feeling he is a real person instead of a bunch of pixels, I’m going to take another example from the setting of the previous post and give a new situation.
Please read the last blog post before continuing reading in order to understand everything. Read the rest of this entry »
